Composed in 1993 originally for saxophone quartet by Stephen Kent Goodman this is an example of contemporary ragtime which alludes to both vintage ragtime and parody of established melodies. Both the famed "Brahms’s Lullaby" and the time honored cradle song "Go To Sleep My Baby" are used contrapuntally and stretched into new melodies in the ragtime idiom. The tempo should be uniformly slow and in the style of a lullaby; the tone should be rounded and classical, avoiding the abrasiveness of tone associated with rock and jazz styles. Score included.
