Yosemite March and Two Step
by George W. Hetzel
The Yosemite March, composed in 1896, is a sterling example of the genre, undeserving of its 100 years’ obscurity. On the original sheet music is the following inscription: "Respectfully Dedicated to George T. Exton". Nothing has yet been found concerning Mr. Exton nor the dedication.
In the Summer of 1999 in Yosemite National Park, Yosemite commemorated the centennial of Camp Curry with special festivities including the debut of three newly created band arrangements. These band arrangements were created by Internationally renowned composer/arranger Stephen Kent Goodman from rare copies of original piano sheet music. The three marches (The Stentor, The Yosemite March & Two Step by Allen and the Yosemite March and Two Step by Hetzel) were unearthed from the Yosemite Research Library by Yosemite entertainer Tom Bopp. Listen to March
